Description

Revolutionary war soldier. On July 8, 1776, he made the first public proclamation of the Declaration of Independence from the steps of the Pennsylvania State House. The same year Nixon was promoted colonel and later served under Washington at the battle of Princeton. LS, one page, 5 x 7, May 8, 1782. Letter to a gentleman regarding a certificate. In part, “If you cannot obtain an order from Council, you could oblige me by sending a Certificate or some Official Paper.” Boldly signed at the conclusion by Nixon. Intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, some mild toning, and small area of paper loss from seal at bottom right, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
