Nimitz signs for the Guard Commandant

American admiral (1885–1966) who led the Allied naval forces in the Pacific in World War II. Vintage 14 x 11 photo of Nimitz signing the Japanese Surrender aboard the Missouri in 1945, signed and inscribed in black ink in the large lower border “To Admiral E. J. Roland, USCG - Commandant U. S. Coast Guard - with best wishes, warm regards and great appreciation of the contribution of the U. S. Guard to the war effort that made possible the above scene. C. W. Nimitz, F. Admiral USN.” Edwin John Roland served as Commandant of Cadets at the Coast Guard Academy from 1950 to 1954. In 1962, he was appointed Commandant of the Coast Guard by President John F. Kennedy and served as the twelfth Commandant of the United States Coast Guard from 1962 to 1966. In fine condition, with a couple trivial brushes to inscription and a small surface crease to one word of sentiment. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
