Handsome vintage glossy 8 x 10 publicity photo of Presley in a partially unbuttoned shirt, apparently from one of his early film roles, signed and inscribed in blue ink, “To Mary, Sincerely yours, Elvis Presley.” In 1960, Presley returned from his stint in the military eager to make a career as a movie star. Over the next decade, under the watchful eye of his Svengali, Colonel Tom Parker, Presley mostly withdrew from concerts and television appearances to appear in such plot-light, music-heavy fare as Girls! Girls! Girls!, Roustabout, and Clambake. Although some critics lambasted Presley’s films for their lack of depth, the fans turned out in droves and made them enormously profitable.
