Frederick Leighton (1830–1896), president of the Royal Academy, is best known for his works depicting historical, biblical, and classical subjects; Edwin Landseer (1802–1873) is best known for his paintings of animals and for the sculptures of the famous lions at the foot of Nelson’s Tower. Five items: Four ALS signed “Fred Leighton,” various sizes and formats, one dated 1878, sending thanks and mentioning a fresco; and an 1867 ALS signed “Landseer,” politely declining an invitation. In fine condition overall, with scattered mild soiling and wrinkling, and mounting traces to reverses of Leighton letters. R&R COA.
