The eldest son of George III, he alienated his subjects with his prodigious spending and contemptuous treatment of his wife Queen Caroline, whom he refused to admit to his coronation. Address panel from an envelope addressed in George’s hand to the Duke of Gloucester, 5 x 3 (lightly affixed to a slightly larger slip), December 6, 1819, signed at lower left, “G[eorge] P[rince] R[egent].” The panel bears a red “Free” royal postmark.
