Description

Easier to display than the original: Lindy signs a cardboard miniature of the Spirit of St. Louis

Terrific and unusual printed and die-cut cardboard “pop up” model of the Spirit of St. Louis, evidently intended as a party favor or place card, the wingspan approximately 5.5″, signed in fountain pen across the wings, “C. A. Lindbergh.” The airplane also bears a small label with Lindbergh’s name written in another hand, possibly indicating that this item was set at Lindbergh’s own place. Also included is an unsigned printed program for a “Citizens’ Banquet” in honor of Lindbergh held in San Diego on September 21, 1927, 5.5 x 7, evidently the event at which the former item was originally obtained. In very good condition, with somewhat irregular adhesion of signature due to “metallic” finish of cardboard, a few bends and pieces of small tape to airplane, and bends, rubbing, soiling, and a few spots of skinning to program. R&R COA. Featured collection item.
