American-born artist (1834–1903) perhaps best known for his painting titled Arrangement in Gray and Black,” better known as “Whistler’s Mother.” Third-person handwritten invitation, signed in the lower left corner with his unique butterfly signature, on an off-white card. Whistler writes, “Mr. Whistler requests that he have the pleasure of the company of Mr. McLean at Timms, May 18th at 8 o’clock.” Archivally matted and framed with a portrait of Whistler and a small plaque, to an overall size of 18.25 x 15.25.
