Dean works out several problems involving addition, multiplication, and division. After Dean’s mother, Mildred, died in the previous year, Dean’s father sent the nine-year-old to live with his aunt and uncle, Ortense and Marcus Winslow, on a farm in Fairmount, Indiana. A few years later, it was at Fairmount High School, that Dean first took to the stage. After his graduation in 1949, Dean returned to California and embarked on a fledgling career that soon erupted into full-fledged superstardom—and ended with a premature death that propelled him into legend.
