However, if anything should occur whereby I may be able to place Mr. Fassett, I will take pleasure in doing so especially on your account.” The appointment of Garrett was a controversial one by Theodore Roosevelt and in December of the same year he refused to reappoint Garrett to this same post, whereupon Garrett and his family returned to their ranch in the San Andreas Mountains.
