Description

Texas tough! Garret throws a man off his property, “do me the favor to get Samson off my place. Of all the men I ever knew, Samson is the most objectionable”

Lawman best remembered as the killer of notorious gunfighter Billy the Kid on July 14, 1881. Ironically, Garrett and Bonney had once been friends before they ended up on opposite sides of the law. ALS signed “P. F. Garrett,” one lightly-lined page, 8.5 x 10, Office of the Sheriff of Dona Ana County letterhead, November 26, 1897. Letter to his friend, Henry J. Bowles. In part, “As I don’t know…I inclose [sic] a note to him and wish you would also ask…to do me the favor to get Samson off my place. Of all the men I ever knew, Samson is the most objectionable one to have there to take care of the place, this leaves all well.” In fine condition, with three mailing folds, light strip of toning along top edge, a light overall shade of toning and two small areas of paper repair to right edge. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
