Description

Mishima signs a book of his plays a year (or less) before his very public death

Influential Japanese writer who committed hara-kiri to protest the Westernization and military weakness of postwar Japan. His reactionary views, private “army,” and homosexuality made him one of the most controversial public figures in Japan and one of the most enigmatic geniuses of modern literature. Signed book: Five Modern No Plays. Tokyo: Charles E. Tuttle, 1969. Paperback, 4.25 x 7. Signed in black ink on the title page, “Yukio Mishima.” In fine condition, with usual mild toning and light rubbing to covers, and unusually well preserved for this notoriously perishable format. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
