In 1935, Leo and his brother David starred in the stage play Dead End. In 1937 this was made into a movie, and Leo became one of the busiest actors for the next twenty years. He starred in seven Dead End Kids movies, in twenty-one East Side Kids films, and in forty-one Bowery Boys movies. He left the Bowery Boys after his father, Bernard, also a frequent co-star in the series (as Louie Dumbrowski), was killed in a car accident in 1955.
