Truman appoints his school hood chum to the position of White House Press Secretary

DS as president, one page, 18 x 14, May 15, 1945. President Truman appoints Charles G. Ross of Maryland, to the position of Secretary. Signed at the conclusion in black ink by Truman and countersigned by his acting Secretary of State. Accompanied by a vintage glossy 7 x 9 photo of Ross and Truman on a boat, signed and inscribed to Al Mingalone by Ross and also signed by Truman. Ross was Truman’s childhood friend from Independence, Missouri, who received a Pulitzer Prize for newspaper correspondence and would serve as Truman’s Press Secretary from 1945 until his death at his desk in the White House in 1950. Both are double cloth matted and framed with a Truman commemorative medallion, to an overall size of 39 x 27. In fine condition, with a bisecting vertical fold and intact paper seal.
