Description

Rare signed Hooker CDV

One of the most immodest, immoral and unlikable Union generals. He fought with and constantly found fault with his superiors, was roundly criticized for the bar and brothel element of his headquarters, and fought erratically—often getting his courage from a bottle. Popular legend has it that his name was permanently attached to prostitutes who were known during the war as ”Hooker’s girls.” Rare original sepia CDV portrait of Hooker seated in his dress uniform, 2.5 x 4, signed in the lower border in black ink, “Joseph Hooker, Maj. Genl.” In fine condition, with a bit of trivial silvering. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
