Late ‘20s signed color-tinted portrait of Tom Mix

Cowboy movie star who appeared in over 300 Westerns, his career faded with the advent of “talkies.” Fantastic vintage matte-finish color-tinted 10.25 x 13.5 Bachrach portrait of Mix in full cowboy regalia and holding a lasso, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To my friend Bob De Lacy, Best wishes always, Tom Mix.” In fine condition, with only a couple minor corner creases. The lower left corner is embossed with the “FBO” emblem. Mix made scores of silents for Selig Polyscope, then spent eleven years with Fox, and closed out his silent film career at little Film Booking Office (FBO) in the late 1920s.  His salary at Fox reached $17,500 per week. Sound and Mix didn’t mix, and after making a few films during the sound era, he left the industry, touring with the Sells Floto Circus in 1930 and 1931 and the Tom Mix Circus from 1936 to 1938. He died in an auto accident in 1940. PSA/DNA COA and R&R COA.
