Description

“The end of the war seems no near than then, but I hope for the best, that peace may soon revisit our unhappy country. If I live till next June, I shall be certain to go home.”

A Confederate soldier writes his sweetheart. In part, “In reply to your more than welcome letter…it was with feelings of regret that I consigned it to the flames…I feel that matters are too uncertain here to keep them. I cannot bear the idea of a Yankee ever reading one of your letters to me…Nearly eight months have passed since I last saw you, yet the end of the war seems no near than then, but I hope for the best, that peace may soon revisit our unhappy country. If I live till next June, I shall be certain to go home.” In good condition, with partial fold separations, expected mailing folds, scattered toning and soiling and some light wrinkling. R&R COA.
