German novelist, Buddenbrooks, The Magic Mountain, etc. Nobel laureate in Literature, 1929. TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.25, personal letterhead, June 24, 1948. Mann politely declines a request. In part, “I am convinced that he deserves any assistance in his endeavour to broaden his horizon through a trip abroad…I am unfortunately not in a position to do so, as the demands made upon my helpfulness are already surpassing my ability.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In fine condition, with a light shade of overall toning, a bit heavier to folds and left edge. R&R COA.
