Description

DS as president, one page, 12 x 17, April 14, 1811. Virginia Line land grant, with Madison granting 640 acres of land 'situate between the Little Miami and Sciota rivers, north west of the river Ohio,' to Matthew Smith, a Captain, 'in consideration of military service performed.' Signed at the bottom in black ink by Madison. Archivally double cloth matted and framed under conservation glass, with a portrait of Madison and a small plaque, to an overall size of 29 x 25. In very good condition, with signature a few shades light, but legible, document fold through first letter of signature, scattered toning, heavier in the folds and a worn, but intact seal.
