U. S. Marshal document signed by Frederick Douglass

Former slave who lent his eloquently powerful voice to the abolitionist movement. DS, signed 'Fredk. Douglass,' one page, 8.5 x 7, U. S. Marshal's office letterhead, October 26, 1877. As US Marshall for Washington, DC, Douglass directs warden J. S. Crocker to release ten prisoners from his custody so that they may 'be brought before the Judge now in session.' In fine condition, with some minor edge staining and a horizontal fold. RRAuction COA.
