Danish physicist (1885–1962) who was awarded the 1922 Nobel Prize in Physics for his theory of atomic structure. TLS in Danish, one page, 7.25 x 9.25, personal letterhead, February 15, 1955. Letter to Ole Cavling, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Extra-Bladdet, thanking him for sending a copy of Confluence magazine. In part (translated): “I will be happy to read it and will give it afterwards to my son. I’m also sending the enclosed as promised, a copy of my unfortunately very detailed article for the Columbia Conference last fall.” Scattered creases, light toning, a paperclip mark to the top edge, and filing holes to the left edge, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by the copy of the 20-page speech mentioned in the letter, entitled ‘Unity of Knowledge.’ Bohr delivered this speech at Columbia University on October 28, 1954, as a part of its 200th anniversary symposia, the theme of which was ‘Man’s Right to Knowledge and the Free Use Thereof.’ He was fascinated by the philosophical questions that rose from discoveries in quantum physics, and promoted the idea of an interdisciplinary conceptual approach to the expansion of human knowledge.
