Stowe,” one page, 4.5 x 7, dated “Hartford, Aug 26.” Stowe quotes from a passage contained in her 1854 book Sunny Memories of Foreign Lands: "There are souls like the alabaster vase of ointment, very precious, which shed no perfume of devotion because a great sorrow has never broken them.” Double-matted and framed with a portrait of Stowe to an overall size of 16.25 x 13.
