A color 3.5 x 4.5 photo of Duke and his family, carried to the lunar surface aboard the lunar module Orion on the Apollo 16 mission. Duke carried several of these family portraits to the moon, actually leaving one on the lunar surface. Photo is affixed to a 12 x 10 board, along with a 3.5 x 4.5 photo of the Duke family photo he left on the moon. Signed and inscribed in blue felt tip, “To Ludy, With sincere thanks for taking this picture. This one flew to the moon aboard Apollo 16. With best wishes to a great Friend. Charlie Duke.” Ludy is Ludy Benjamin, a NASA photographer who took the Duke family portrait. Also accompanied by a handwritten letter of provenance from Duke, which reads: “I certify that this photo of my family was flown to the moon aboard the lunar module Orion on Apollo 16 mission. I took several copies of this photo of my family with me to the lunar surface. I left one of the family photos on the lunar surface and photographed it. The rest of the photos, including this one, returned to Earth with me.” Also accompanied by a print out of an article from the June 2009 issue of Autograph magazine, chronicling the certification of this particular photo, which incorporates a photo of Duke holding the presentation, a signed color photo of the family portrait he left on the lunar surface, signed in black felt tip, “My lunar tribute to Dotty, Charles and Tom, Descartes Highlands 4/23/72. Charlie Duke, Apollo 16, LMP”; an unsigned color satin-finish 8 x 10 photo of the snapshot in the lunar dust, and a negative of the photo.
