ALS in German, signed "Hermann Göring," four pages both sides, 8.5 x 11, Klampenborg Spa and Seaside Hotel letterhead, July 12, 1929. Handwritten letter to aviation pioneer Anthony Fokker, writing at length about his work promoting Fokker aircraft in Denmark: flying Fokker aircraft on exhibition and demonstration flights around Copenhagen, competing German and Danish manufacturers active in the Danish market, his financial situation, pressing Fokker for a transfer of money and a percentage on machines sold, and a separate claim for commission on 100 BMW aircraft engines he says he helped secure for Fokker through his contact with Wagenfuhr.
In small part (translated): "As you know, originally the flying authorities invited me to come here with an aircraft. Hence, I got immediately into all circles interested in flying and other matters, and have worked up good relationships here. In spite of this, there is naturally no great business to be hoped for at once, especially since the authorities here work extraordinarily slowly. Aviation as a whole is supposed to start here on very 'correct' lines, and that state of affairs will go on for some time…But the main point is this—the firm is fully represented here, and everyone sees the Fokker machine and learns to know what is good…Naturally, I fly everywhere, and the newspapers write whole columns of the loops, turns, etc…I landed right in the middle of Copenhagen, near a barracks. Naturally, people here were absolutely astounded by this. Well, as soon as the two seater gets here, and I do loops with passengers, they will be even more amazed." In fine condition, with a few small edge tears. Accompanied by a full English translation.
Göring’s work for Anthony Fokker in Denmark marked an important chapter in his postwar aviation career, when the celebrated former fighter ace used his reputation, flying skill, and personal connections to promote Fokker aircraft in the Scandinavian market. His exhibition flights around Copenhagen attracted substantial public and press attention, while his access to aviation officials gave Fokker a conspicuous presence in a developing commercial market. Written directly to Fokker, this detailed letter offers an unusually revealing firsthand account of Göring as salesman, demonstration pilot, and intermediary during the unsettled years between his wartime fame and later political rise.
