Complete disbound STS-51-B "SL Systems Data Malfunction" manual, attested as flown on the Space Shuttle Challenger from April 29, 1985–May 6, 1985, totaling 512 pages, separated into five main green-tabbed sections: "COMM," "CDMS," "ECLS," "EPS," and "MECH." White tabs further divide the manual into subsections, such as "SL Audio Failure," "No Monitor Picture," "COMP/IOU," "MMU/IPL," "DDS," "RAU," "ATCS H2O," "Freon," "DC Voltage," and many more. The front and back covers feature red stripes affixed along the edge, and the front carries a post-flight ink stamp: "Microfilmed, Jul 18 1985." In overall fine condition, with light wear from use.
This extensive malfunction manual was part of the crew’s working reference library for diagnosing and responding to failures within Spacelab’s complex onboard systems. Covering communications, environmental control, electrical power, and mechanical systems, it reflects the highly procedural nature of Shuttle-era operations, giving the crew immediate access to troubleshooting steps for everything from audio and video failures to cooling loops and electrical faults.
