Pope, born Eugenio Maria Giuseppe Giovanni Pacello (1876-1958), who reigned from 1939 until his death. During WWII, he advanced several peace proposals, did much to aid war victims, and, following the war, maintained a staunch anti-Communist stand. Semi-glossy 6.5 x 8.75 silver gelatin portrait photo of Eugenio Pacelli as the Cardinal Secretary of State, signed on the original 11 x 14.75 mount in ink, "With every blessing, The Vatican, Christmas, 1938, E. Card Pacelli." In fine condition, with light scattered marks and a small crease to the upper portion.
