Description

Flown sterling silver Apollo 8 Robbins medallion, measuring approximately 1.5˝ x 1.25˝, featuring a raised design of the mission insignia on the face—an "8" looping around the Earth and Moon, reflecting both the mission number and the circumlunar nature of the mission. The reverse is engraved with the mission dates, "Dec. 21–27, 1968," and serial number, "243." Stamped below with the Robbins "Sterling" hallmark. Condition is mint state, with moderate tarnishing. Includes its original matching case, with cracked plastic, losses, and toned tape residue. A superb flown keepsake from the historic Apollo 8 mission, carried on mankind's first journey to the 'dark side of the moon.'

From the William E. Thornton Collection.
