Description

JFK presents a 1940 edition of his Harvard thesis-turned-bestseller, Why England Slept

Signed book: Why England Slept. Fifth printing. NY: Wilfred Funk, Inc., 1940. Hardcover, 5.75 x 8.25, 252 pages. Boldly signed and inscribed on the first free end page in fountain pen, "To Eduardo Iturbide, Sincerely, John F. Kennedy." Autographic condition: fine, with light toning to the signed page. Book condition: VG/None, with toning to endpapers, sunning to spine, and light soiling.

Based on his Harvard thesis, Kennedy's first book examines the years leading up to World War II and the measures taken—or not taken—by England to extinguish the German threat before it developed into world war. First published in 1940, the book sold 80,000 copies in the United Kingdom and the United States and earned $40,000 in royalties. A particularly desirable Kennedy autograph from the very outset of his public career.
