Description

DS, signed "Gregory Boyington," four pages on two sheets, 8.5 x 11, October 11, 1945. American Federation of Radio Artists (AFRA) Standard Exclusive Agency Contract between legendary Marine Corps fighter ace Gregory ‘Pappy’ Boyington and the William Morris Agency, appointing the agency as his exclusive representative for radio broadcasting engagements and phonograph recording opportunities. Signed at the conclusion in ink by Pappy Boyington. In fine condition.

Liberated from a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp in late August 1945 after nearly 20 months in captivity, Gregory Boyington returned to the United States as one of the nation's most celebrated World War II heroes. His command of Marine Fighting Squadron 214, the famed ‘Black Sheep’ squadron, together with the Medal of Honor and Navy Cross, made him an instant celebrity, leading to a nationwide Victory Bond tour and numerous opportunities in radio and other entertainment ventures. Signed just six days after President Harry S. Truman presented Boyington with the Medal of Honor, this agreement with the William Morris Agency documents the beginning of his transition from decorated combat ace to public figure.
