Description

American crime boss (1915–1985) who served as the head of New York City's Gambino crime family from 1976 until his assassination outside Sparks Steak House in Manhattan on December 16, 1985. Social Security card of Gambino crime family boss Paul Castellano, 3.25 x 1.75, issued to "Paul C. Castellano" at "99 Buttonwood Rd., Staten Island, N.Y.," bearing Social Security account number 065-28-8801 and signed below in ballpoint, "Paul C. Castellano." The reverse retains the printed Social Security Administration instructions for preserving the detachable portion of the card. Accompanied by a stainless-steel Zippo ‘Ferro Foods’ money clip, also attributed to Castellano's estate. The clip incorporates two folding knife blades, with the front displaying the Ferro Foods name, crest logo, and telephone number. In overall fine condition, with toned adhesive residue to the sides of the Social Security card.

Accompanied by a photocopy of an email from historian John Binder containing a provenance statement from the prior owner identifying the Social Security card and Ferro Foods money clip as having belonged to Castellano, and a copy of Castellano's Social Security Death Index record, which bears the same Social Security account number as the card.
