(Walt Disney Studios, 1951) Beautiful original panoramic concept painting by Mary Blair for Alice in Wonderland, depicting Alice seated at the head of the table during the Mad Tea Party. Accomplished in tempera on a 21.5 x 9 illustration board, the imaginative composition places the viewer at one end of the tea table, looking past an array of brightly colored teapots, teacups, saucers, chairs, and serving pieces toward Alice seated at the opposite end. Blair's inventive use of perspective, saturated color, and simplified geometric forms transforms the familiar tea service into a visual journey through one of the film's most memorable sequences. In fine condition, with tack holes to corners. Among the most colorful and richly realized original concept paintings from the great Mary Blair.
Blair was a concept artist for Disney during the 1940s and early 1950s, working on designs for such films as Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland. She also created designs for several Disney attractions (including It's a Small World) and her largest work ever, the multistory mosaic in Disney World's Contemporary Hotel concourse.
