Vintage circa 1982 MPL postcard featuring an image of Paul McCartney wearing headphones during the ‘Tug Of War’ album cover photograph session, signed on the reverse by ballpoint, “Paul McCartney,” “Love, Linda [McCartney] x,” “George Martin,” and “Eric Stewart.” The consignor notes that the autographs were obtained on June 23, 1982, at EMI's Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, England, when Paul McCartney was filming the video for the single ‘Take It Away,’ when 600 members of the Wings Fun Club were invited to be part of the live audience at the shoot. In fine condition, with collector’s notations to the right side.
Accompanied by the original invitation for the event, an Elstree Studios welcome note, a certificate of authenticity from Tracks, and a detailed letter of provenance from the original recipient: “The video for Paul McCartney’s ‘Take It Away’ single was a big production shot at Elstree Studios and the theme was a band trying to make it. The band members were Paul & Linda McCartney, George Martin, Eric Stewart & Ringo. The actor John Hurt played the parts of a Brian Epstein type character.
Around 600 members of the Wings Fun Club were invited to participate playing the role of a live concert audience. My brother was a member of the Wings Fun Club and he got the invite with me attending as well. The video shoot took place on 23 June.
After the shoots the musicians stayed around so that fans could get autographs, although Ringo & Mrs Barbara Bach left early. I personally obtained the autographs of Linda McCartney (who was lovely and stayed until the last fans left), George Martin & Eric Stewart. Unfortunately Paul McCartney was tired and retired to his trailer before many of the fans could get his autograph, myself included. So the crew took items from those unable to get Paul to sign, and had him sign later and mailed it back that’s why my address is on the reverse of the postcard.”
