Description

ALS signed “xo Jackie,” one page, 6.25 x 9.25, black-bordered personal letterhead, [July 6, 1964, annotated in pencil]. Handwritten letter to Kennedy cousin Ann Gargan, in full: "Please take Caroline's bandage off—she so wants to show Grandpa—then just wrap it up again any old way—(noticing which end of the splint is rear her thumb). The Dr. said she could take it off every day & I could put it back on—so am sure you can." In fine condition, with a small smudge to one word of text. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, bearing a pre-printed free frank.

Ann Gargan was JFK’s first cousin, the daughter of Rose Kennedy’s younger sister, Agnes Fitzgerald Gargan. Orphaned at a young age, Ann and her siblings remained closely connected to the Kennedy family, spending considerable time with their cousins at Hyannis Port and other family homes. She later became a devoted caretaker to her uncle, Joseph P. Kennedy, remaining at the former ambassador’s side during the years of disability that followed his 1961 stroke; through her, JFK maintained an especially personal connection to his ailing father.

From the estate of Ann Gargan King.
