Original hand-inked nine-panel Peanuts Sunday comic strip by Charles Schulz, 22.5 x 15.25, signed and inscribed in black felt tip, “For Fran, with every best wish – Charles M. Schulz,” whose artist signature is present in the lower right corner of the last panel in black ink. In this classic Peanuts strip, Sally Brown confesses to Eudora that she lied to her teacher about being sick to avoid admitting she hadn't done her homework. Sally admits, “Actually, I was watching TV… Now, I'll be punished with bad luck… or somebody in our family will have bad luck…” Although Eudora dismisses her fears as mere superstition, the strip ends with Charlie Brown being bonked on the head by a baseball. Sitting dazed, he wonders aloud, “Has my sister been lying again?!” The third panel is dated “3-24” and bears a 1985 United Features Syndicate copyright label. The first panel bears the affixed title card with facsimile signature, “Peanuts featuring ‘Good ol' Charlie Brown’ by Schulz.” Double-matted and framed to an overall size of 31.5 x 24. In fine condition.
This strip appeared on March 24, 1985, and features an appearance of Eudora, the last major recurring character introduced to the Peanuts cast. Added by Charles Schulz in 1978 as Sally Brown's closest friend, Eudora was named in honor of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Eudora Welty. The strip also concludes with one of Schulz's classic Charlie Brown gags, as the perpetually unlucky protagonist is struck on the head by a baseball.
