Vintage ballpoint signatures of the Beatles — “John Lennon,” “George Harrison,” “Paul McCartney (Beatles),” and “Ringo Starr, xx” — on an off-white 4.75 x 3.75 sheet, with Ringo signing in green ballpoint while his bandmates sign in blue ballpoint. The consignor notes that the autographs were obtained at the Adelphi Theatre in Slough, England, on May 18, 1963, on the opening night of the Beatles and Roy Orbison tour. In very good condition, with overall creasing.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and by a letter of provenance from the original recipient: “14 year old me, 1963 had tickets for a concert at the Adelphi theatre in Slough with friends. The Beatles finished the first half, and Roy Orbison was top of the bill! We were invited to meet the Fab4 and given their autographs.”
On May 18, 1963, the Beatles opened the 21-date Roy Orbison/Beatles UK Tour at the Adelphi Cinema on Bath Road in Slough, Buckinghamshire. Although Roy Orbison had been announced as the tour's headlining act, audience reaction to the Beatles was so enthusiastic that the group's prominence steadily increased as the tour progressed, ultimately leading to top billing for much of the remainder of the engagement. The evening's bill also featured Gerry and the Pacemakers, Louise Cordet, David Macbeth, Tony Marsh, the Terry Young Six, Erkey Grant, and Ian Crawford. During the opening-night performance, the Beatles were presented with a Silver Disc recognizing the strong sales of their recent single ‘From Me to You.’
