Description

"It is a minor masterpiece"—Odets heaps praise on E. M. Forster's 'A Passage to India

American playwright (1906-1963) known for his powerful works of the Depression era, including Waiting for Lefty and Golden Boy. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, February 24, 1943. Letter to the "Letters to the Editor Column," in full: "Since your pages are so much filled now with writings on India, I would suggest that interested readers slowly read a novel by E. M. Forster, 'A Passage to India.' It is a minor masterpiece and its value here is that it gives a picture of India and its problems beyond the scope of journalism. It is an eye-opener, a useful art work, written by one of the finest of modern novelists. The Modern Library edition is cheap and easily procurable. PM readers will enjoy it and be helped in an understanding of a part of the world that not even the best journalism can make clear." In fine condition.
