Description

TLS as president, one page, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, March 26, 1934. Letter to Frank L. Humphreys, in full: "I am delighted with the painting and it is hanging in a place of honor in my study. I shall be very happy to have the small plate to attach to it. I have another painting of the U.S.S. Ohio done in very much the same style and I take it that it is probably by the same artist. Incidentally, your painting hangs close to the glass case in which rests my much treasured Cincinnati medal." In fine condition.

Frank Landon Humphreys (1858–1937) was an American Episcopal clergyman, author, military chaplain, and civic figure who served as canon of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, chaplain and president of the New Jersey Society of the Cincinnati, and acting chaplain at West Point. A decorated Francophile and prolific writer, he authored works on church music, France, and George Washington, and served as mayor of Boynton Beach, Florida.
