Description

Gold presentation medal from the inaugural 1930 World Cup in Uruguay, presented to FIFA President Jules Rimet—the man whose vision created the World Cup

Exceptional gold presentation medal awarded to FIFA President Jules Rimet in connection with the first FIFA World Championship, held in Montevideo, Uruguay, in July 1930. Gold, 24 gm, 22 mm x 36 mm, with the front featuring an Art Deco design with a winged allegorical figure standing before radiating lines and the dates “1928–1930,” and the reverse bears a wreath with engraved text: “Montevideo / Jules Rimet / Presidente / Juillet 1930,” identifying the recipient as the FIFA president whose vision brought the World Cup into existence. Accompanied by a signed letter of authenticity from Laura Franco Baich, Director of the 1930 World Cup Museum in Montevideo, stating that the medal was awarded by FIFA to organizing authorities of the First World Championship and presented to Jules Rimet. A remarkable relic directly linked to the birth of the world's most celebrated sporting competition.

The 1930 FIFA World Cup marked the first international football championship organized by FIFA and remains one of the defining milestones in sports history. Staged in Uruguay from July 13–30, 1930, the tournament brought together thirteen national teams and culminated in host nation Uruguay's 4–2 victory over Argentina before an estimated 93,000 spectators at Montevideo's Estadio Centenario. The competition fulfilled a long-held ambition of FIFA president Jules Rimet, who had spent years advocating for a standalone world championship devoted exclusively to football. Although today his name is most closely associated with the famed Jules Rimet Trophy, the tournament itself stands as his greatest achievement, establishing the four-year cycle and international framework that transformed football into the world's game.

Jules Rimet (1873–1956) served as FIFA president from 1921 to 1954, the longest tenure in the organization's history. A founder of the Red Star sporting club in Paris and former president of the French Football Federation, Rimet guided FIFA through a period of extraordinary growth and championed the creation of a global championship open to nations from every continent. His efforts culminated in the inaugural World Cup in Uruguay, an event that forever altered the course of international sport. In recognition of his contributions, the World Cup trophy bore his name from 1946 until 1970. Few surviving artifacts can claim a more direct connection to the origins of the FIFA World Cup than this personally inscribed medal presented to Jules Rimet, the visionary FIFA president whose dream of a global football championship became reality in Montevideo in 1930.
