Michigan senator (1827–1896) who served as President pro tempore of the U.S. Senate from 1875 to 1879. Following the death of Vice President Henry Wilson in November 1875, Ferry served as Acting Vice President and stood first in the presidential line of succession until the inauguration of Vice President William A.
