Description

Partly-printed DS as secretary of state, one page, 7.5 x 9.75, December 9, 1847. As secretary of state, Buchanan certifies "Robert White and Henry Reaver, whose names are subscribed to the paper hereunto attached, are now, and were, at the time of subscribing the same, Justices of the Peace, in and for the County of Washington, in the District of Columbia, to whose acts as such full faith and credit are due.” Signed prominently at the conclusion by Buchanan; the upper Buchanan signature is a secretarial hand. The original white paper seal and ribbon are affixed to the left side, and the referenced paper is included. In fine condition, with scattered light foxing.
