Description

Distinguished German physicist (1845-1923) who discovered X-rays in 1895, for which he was awarded the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901. ALS in German, signed “W. C. Röntgen,” one page on a 4.25 x 3.5 personal stationery card, March 30, 1909. Addressed from Cadenabbia, Lake Como, Italy, to the Court Secretariat of His Royal Highness Prince Alfons of Bavaria. In full, translated: “Enclosed I am sending you my quarterly rent in the amount of M. 1500. With the request that you send a certificate of receipt to the address below.” Röntgen adds his temporary address at the Hotel Bellevue in Cadenabbia, “Comersee, Italien.” In very good condition, with light toning and minor handling wear. A neatly penned and unusual personal letter from the scientific giant, written during a stay on Lake Como and relating to his financial affairs with the Bavarian court.
