Description

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 7.75 x 9.75, February 21, 1853. President Fillmore directs the Secretary of State to affix the Seal of the United States to “the ratification of the supplementary commercial convention in the Netherlands of the 26th of August last.” Signed at the conclusion by Millard Fillmore. Matted and framed with an engraved portrait (with facsimile signature) and an 1856 ‘National American’ Party presidential campaign textile for Fillmore and Donelson, to an overall size of 23.25 x 21.75. In very good to fine condition, with light creasing and intersecting folds. Signed during the closing days of Fillmore’s administration, the document concerns the ratification of a U.S.-Netherlands commercial convention, part of the expansion of American diplomatic and trade relations in the early 1850s.
