World War II–dated vintage matte-finish 6 x 8 photo of Bernard Law Montgomery in uniform, affixed to its original 8.25 x 12 studio mount, signed on the mount in bold fountain pen, "B. L. Montgomery, General, 24/4/44"—six weeks before D-Day, while commanding 21st Army Group preparing Operation Overlord, and before his September 1, 1944 promotion to Field Marshal. Also signed on the mount in pencil by the studio, "Vandyk, London." Reverse bears a Vandyk credit stamp. In fine condition, with scattered light scratching to the mount.
