Description

ANS in French, signed "H. de. T. Lautrec," one page both sides, 4 x 2.25, December 4, 1898. Toulouse-Lautrec pens a note on one of his personal calling cards, simply imprinted on the front with his name. In part (translated): "My dear friend, be kind enough to find a place for Mlle d’Enguin and one of her friends." In very fine condition.

At this time, the artist was a fixture in the Parisian nightlife of Montmartre, and these kinds of 'favor notes' were his currency for moving friends through the social scene of the Moulin Rouge and various theaters. Notably, in this instance, he seems to refer to Louise Blouet d'Enguin—the subject of one of his works, 'La modiste.'
