Description

Program for the legendary Jimi Hendrix Experience and Pink Floyd 1967 UK Tour, signed by Hendrix at Green's Playhouse in Glasgow on the tour’s final stop

Original vintage program for the Jimi Hendrix Experience's 1967 United Kingdom Fall Tour, published by the Hastings Printing Co., 12 pages, 10.5 x 8, signed on the front cover in ballpoint by Jimi Hendrix. The front cover features psychedelic artwork by Anthony Litri and Paul Martin, and the program includes images and biographies of the tour's scheduled performers: Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd, The Move, The Amen Corner, The Nice, The Eire Apparent, The Outer Limits, and Pete Drummond as compere. The consignor notes that the program was signed at Green's Playhouse in Glasgow on December 5, 1967; this show was the final night of the 16-day UK tour. In fine condition, with general light handling wear.

Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks, and by a letter of provenance from the original recipient: “Several of my school friends and I were lucky enough to get tickets for the concert at Green's Playhouse on the 5th December 1967…Heading the bill was the Jimi Hendrix Experience…Jimi was the last act on the night & really brought the house down. As an encore, he played Wild Thing with the guitar between his legs…At the end of the concert, I went down to the front of the stage & asked one of the bouncers if he could get Jimi's autograph on the programme. After several minutes, the bouncer returned with the programme duly signed.”

The 16-date UK package tour kicked off on November 14, 1967, and consisted of a total of 31 shows in 16 cities, with each act playing two shows a night; at each gig, the headlining Experience were allotted exactly 40 minutes, The Move a half an hour, and Pink Floyd were given between 15 and 20 minutes. At this juncture, Hendrix was well on his way to becoming a major star: his first three singles, ‘Hey Joe,' ‘Purple Haze,' and ‘The Wind Cries Mary,' had all been top ten hits, and his debut album, released in May of that year, sat in the top 20 for 33 weeks.
