Scarce ballpoint signatures of the entire ill-fated Space Shuttle Challenger crew—"Dick Scobee," "Mike Smith," "Ellison Onizuka," "Greg Jarvis," "S. Christa McAuliffe," "Judy Resnik," and "Ronald E. McNair”—on an off-white 7.75 x 9.5 sheet, with a typed caption at the bottom: "51-L Teacher in Space Mission, Emergency Egress Mode I Training given by LSOC Tech Training Instructor Conrad J. Luecke on 8 Jan 86, Pad B Kennedy Space Center, Florida." Matted and framed with a poignant cartoon reprinted from the Orlando Sentinel to an overall size of 17.75 x 21.75. In fine condition.
Dated just 20 days prior to the Challenger disaster of January 28, 1986, this training-day memento captures the crew in the final weeks of preparation before their tragic mission. The contrast between the routine nature of the emergency egress instruction and the fate that followed lends the piece exceptional historical poignancy.
