Description

King of Prussia (born 1712) from 1740 until his death in 1786, whose political prowess and enlightened attitudes toward religion, learning, and the humanities earned him the sobriquet 'Frederick the Great.' LS in French, signed “Frederic,” one page, 7.25 x 9.25, January 1, 1775. Letter to a lieutenant, in part (translated): "It is with great satisfaction that I have seen, by the plans which you addressed to me on the 13th of this month, and which I am returning to you herewith, how usefully you have employed your time in perfecting yourself in the trade you have taken up."
