Description

Uncommon 10˝ US Mediasound/Apple Records one-sided acetate pressing of Elephant Memory's song "Everglade Woman" (originally called "Down So Low"—as crossed out on the label) in mono. This was to be Elephant’s Memory follow up second hit single for early 1973 (Apple 1856) but was cancelled for unknown reasons just prior to release. This rare acetate, dated "3/28/73," is the only known artifact of the song to exist for that planned release.

Known in New York’s Greenwich Village as a roving band of buskers—often performing with bizarre costumes and inflatable stage props—Elephant’s Memory was an underground act long before being discovered by John Lennon as his backing band in the early 1970s. The group supported Lennon and Yoko Ono during the March 1972 recording sessions for Some Time in New York City, and later that year released their self-titled album alongside the single 'Power Boogie.' That record also features various contributions from Lennon himself, including guitar and vocal work.

Condition (VG+): The disc displays a small amount of surface marks and scuffs, but no feelable scratches to the playing surface. The labels are clean with some handwritten notes, showing only proper aging. Lacquer shows no signs of deterioration and plays very well with no skips and fantastic overall sound quality directly from the master tapes.
