Description

Fantastic set of three 12˝ two-sided acetate pressings by The Master Cutting Room, Inc., featuring Frank Sinatra's live concert at Carnegie Hall on April 8, 1974—including the unreleased warm up show by Pat Henry—plus one side of John Lennon's Mind Games album.

In the early 1970s, after nearly four decades of performing and recording countless hits, Frank Sinatra entered a brief 'soft' retirement. That hiatus proved short-lived, and on April 8, 1974, he launched his comeback with a highly anticipated concert at Carnegie Hall. Reprise Records arranged for the performance to be professionally recorded with the intention of issuing a live album, and acetates were produced from the master tapes for review by Sinatra and his longtime pianist, Bill Miller.

However, Sinatra felt the performance fell short of his standards, with his voice noticeably rough‐edged and frequently straining to reach the high notes. He ultimately rejected the release, leaving the original master tapes and a single set of acetates as the only surviving records of the concert. The recording remained unreleased until 2009, when it was finally issued as part of the Sinatra: New York CD box set.

This three (3) double sided (six total sides) set is unique as it contains the following surprise adds on Side 1 and Side 6.

Side 1: Pat Henry - The original unreleased warm up show by Pat (long time associate of Sinatra who opened many of his shows) which is not part of the box set—a fantastic session.

Sides 2, 3, 4, and 5: Frank Sinatra's Carnegie Hall concert, including: Come Fly With Me, I Get a Kick Out of You,Don't Worry 'bout Me, If, Bad Bad Leroy Brown, Medley: Last Night When We Were Young / Violets for Your Furs / Here's That Rainy Day, There Used to Be a Ballpark, You Will Be My Music, Send In the Clowns, I've Got You Under My Skin, My Kind of Town, My Way, That's Life.

Side 6: actually contains Side 2 of John Lennon’s Mind Games album. The engineers used the blank side from a leftover one sided acetate from the 1973 Lennon Mind Games project to complete the Sinatra project. Songs include: Intuition, Out the Blue, Only People, I Know (I Know), You Are Here, Meat City.

Condition (VG+): The disc displays a small amount of surface marks and scuffs, but no feelable scratches to the playing surface. The labels are clean, showing only proper aging. Lacquer shows no signs of deterioration and plays very well with no skips and fantastic overall sound quality directly from the master tapes.
