Description

Two 7” US Bell/Apple master tape recordings for each side of for American soul singer Doris Troy's 1970 studio album Doris Troy (Apple ST 3371, 1970), created during the actual production of the album at Bell Sound Studios in New York under the command of legendary engineer Sam Feldman. These tapes would have been a direct copy from the original Bell Master Tapes for final review and approval just before it went into album production. Given they were made directly from the master tapes, the sound quality from the reels is incredibly vibrant with detail not heard on the album release. Each box boasts a typed track listing on the front.

The album features songs written by Troy and a number of the participants on the sessions, including George Harrison, Stephen Stills, Klaus Voormann, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Peter Frampton, Leon Russell, Eric Clapton and members of the Delaney & Bonnie Friends band.

Even though the album was well received ('critically acclaimed album on Apple,' 'first rate,' 'a great gospel-style R&B rocker') it suffered from a lack of promotion under Allen Klein's control of Apple Records and failed to make any commercial impact. Hence, the album is very hard to find with this being the only known set of master tape copies in existence.

Condition: NM.
