Description

Double-sided 12˝ US Bell Sound Studios acetate pressing of Lon & Derrek Van Eaton's 1972 album Brother (Apple SMAS 3390, 1972), featuring typed track listings on the red-and-white Bell Sound labels.

Lon and Derrek Van Eaton began their professional careers performing as part of the band Trees, which later evolved into Jacobs Creek. Following the group’s dissolution in 1971, the brothers submitted demo recordings to Apple Records, attracting the attention of George Harrison and John Lennon. Impressed, Apple signed the duo in June 1971, making them among the last acts signed by the label.

Recording for their debut album Brother commenced in early 1972, spanning nearly six months at Abbey Road and Apple Studios. The sessions featured notable contributions from Peter Frampton, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and Klaus Voormann. Final production shifted to Bell Sound Studios in New York, where the album was completed under the direction of esteemed engineer Sam Feldman.

Even though the album was well received it suffered yet again from a lack of promotion and failed to make any commercial impact. Hence, it is very hard to find and this is one of the few known US Bell Sound acetates in existence, cut just prior to the September 1972 release in the United States.

Condition: VG with great sound quality.

From the Mark Erbach Collection.
